Opportunities

The following opportunities are available to work with or collaborate with Unfolding Theatre.

Join Unfolding Theatre’s Board of Trustees

We are seeking two people to join our Board of Trustees. We are looking for people who can help us develop Unfolding Theatre’s future plans, deliver the best work we can, build relationships and raise the company's profile.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for people who are passionate about theatre, community and are excited to be part of Unfolding Theatre’s development.

We want our board to reflect the diversity of the communities and artists we work with. We welcome expressions from everyone, but especially from people from ethnically diverse backgrounds, disabled people, young people and people who are LGBTQ+.

We are interested in hearing from people who can help Unfolding Theatre’s work thrive by making more connections across different sectors. This includes:

  • People with experience in either touring, audience development, digital & new technologies, legal, HR or environmental practice.

  • People who are part of the communities with whom we co-create theatre. This particularly includes residents of Byker, Cowgate, Sunderland and the North East deaf community.

  • People with experience in… something else entirely! If you’ve got experience or ideas that you think could help Unfolding Theatre grow, let us know.

  • People who might not have been a trustee before. We want to bring in new perspectives. We are also keen to offer people the chance to develop their leadership skills through joining our board. So don’t worry if you’ve never been on a board before, many of our Trustees have never been on Boards before - we can show you the ropes!

How to Apply

Drop us a line to start a conversation. You don’t need to send a formal letter or CV. Just send an email, video or message telling us a bit about yourself, why you’re interested and what skills, experience or perspectives you think you could bring.

We’ll also ask you to fill in an equal opportunity monitoring form. This will be separated from your expression of interest, and is to help us see who we are and aren’t reaching in our trustee call-out.

Expressions of interest should be sent to info@unfoldingtheatre.co.uk by 10am on Monday 11th November.

Any questions?

If you would like an informal discussion with Artistic Director, Annie Rigby, and a few of Unfolding Theatre’s current trustees, please contact annie@unfoldingtheatre.co.uk. There’s no such thing as a silly question!

North East Deaf Youth Theatre: Creative Call Out

We are looking for deaf creatives to join us as at North East Deaf Youth Theatre!

We want to build our networks of deaf creatives to offer the group different creative activities and introduce them to more deaf role models. You might create visual arts, drama, music, filmmaking, animation, photography, creative writing or something else!

We are looking for deaf creatives who are based in the North East and have experience of - or are interested in - working with children and young people.

North East Deaf Youth is funded until Summer 2024 (and we are fundraising to keep it running beyond this date). You can express interest to be a guest facilitator at any time.

Workshop dates

9.30-11.30am on 3rd Saturday of the month plus a summer camp in July/August 2024 (dates tbc).

We are looking for deaf creatives to support a one-off session for our North East Deaf Youth Theatre. This would include planning and leading a creative activity as part of the workshop, and supporting EJ to deliver creative activities. We are offering the opportunity to join as a guest at 1 workshop to build our networks. We hope this will lead to us inviting guest creatives to return and deliver future activities.

Fee

£82.50 as a fee to co-facilitate a 2-hour workshop.

How to apply

Please send an email or link to a video to info@unfoldingtheatre.co.uk .

  • Tell us about your creative skills. This could be examples of your work, links to websites or a CV.

  • Tell us about why you like working with children and young people.

  • Let us know whether you hold an Enhanced DBS certificate issued in the last 3 years. No problem if you don’t – we can cover the cost and process a DBS check if needed.

  • Any access needs – Unfolding Theatre has an access budget to support artists to apply for and work for the company. We welcome applications from disabled creatives.

We welcome applications in different formats in BSL or written/spoken English. Whatever works best for you!

Any questions? Email EJ Raymond at ej@unfoldingtheatre.co.uk

I had a blast working with the Unfolding Theatre team. It was such a supportive atmosphere. Thank you for taking a chance on me. The opportunity was something like nothing else I’d ever been given before. It was amazing to work under the careful eye and encouraging hand of Annie and Alex. I learned a lot from the experience.
