Here Be Dragons

Here Be Dragons is a captivating new show for families, packed with music, fun, and adventure.

Brought to life on The Unfolding Theatre—a unique pop-up stage crafted from reclaimed wood—the show is designed to tour both outdoor and indoor spaces, bringing joy to the heart of local communities across the North East.

Here Be Dragons begins with a child discovering an unfolding map, featuring local landmarks and hidden gems unique to each community. As music highlights these familiar places, the map continues to unfold, revealing more until we reach its mysterious edge. Beyond this point lies the unknown.

Suddenly, dragons make their entrance. Their arrival disrupts the usual routines, introducing new foods, sounds, and ways of life. At first, it seems impossible for them to fit in. However, the narrative takes an unexpected twist when a character decides to embark on their own adventure, stepping beyond the map's edge to learn how to become a dragon.

As the community and the newly-arrived dragons collaborate, Here Be Dragons becomes a story about spreading our wings together.

Thanks to funding from The Cultural Spring, Here Be Dragons will tour in Sunderland and South Tyneside initially, in 2025.
