Young deaf people have their own unique creativity, imagination and talent. For years I was told deaf people can’t make or create theatre and that’s not true.
— EJ Raymond, creative associate

Launching in summer 2022, North East Deaf Youth Theatre aims to support deaf children and young people to develop their creative skills, build confidence and form new friendships.

Together with deaf arts organisation Turtléar, we will host a series of creative summer workshops for deaf children and young people that explore creative writing, acting, lighting and backstage skills.

Workshops take place on the following dates and times:

Monday 1st to Friday 5th August 2022

9.30am - 12.30pm (7-10 year olds)

2 - 5pm (11-16 year olds)

Venue: Jesmond Park Academy (Drama Studio), Jesmond Park West, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE7 7DP

Workshops are free to attend.

Parents/Carers can book place(s) here.

Workshops are delivered by our Creative Associate EJ Raymond.  EJ is profoundly deaf and a BSL user and graduated from Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow in 2018 (BA Performance). EJ is as an actor, writer, and founder of Turtléar.
