Along with the rest of the country, we took part in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and delivered them in true Unfolding Theatre spirit!

Together with our friends at young people’s charity Projects4Change, we hosted a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Family Fun Day at Betty’s Hut and Garden, attracting 120 Cowgate residents throughout the day, including many children and young people.

Our programme was as jam-packed as the scones we served and featured an eccectic mix of creative activities including pin the tail on the corgi, rosette making, zine making and dance workshops with local choreographer Holly Irving.  With music provided by local DJ Fred Phethean (Backyard Rhythm Orchestra) we were delighted to present The Unfolding Theatre once more; our large pop-up stage which enables us to bring our unique style of theatre and music-making direct to the community.

Annie Rigby, Unfolding Theatre Artistic Director said: “Everybody involved had a brilliant day; together we ate, danced, played, and created!  It really encapsulated what Unfolding Theatre is all about; bringing people together to create and share experiences together.  And we were blessed to do that in the blazing sunshine at Betty’s Hut and Garden which is an extraordinary community asset filled with a wildness that sparks such imagination and creativity among local young people”.

Projects4Change CEO Kelly Coates said: “We all had a wonderful day celebrating as a community together.  We are so proud of our young volunteers, staff and artists who made the day so very special by getting involved and in the spirit of things”.

This event was delivered as part of an ongoing partnership with Projects4Change who share our commitment to developing engaging and positive opportunities for young people and local communities in Newcastle.
