Celebrating Creativity and Ageing
Unfolding Theatre recently partnered with Gateshead Council’s Arts Team to deliver Art Diamonds—a joyful and thought-provoking project exploring creativity in later life. Designed for retired people, the project brought together residents from sheltered accommodation and members of the existing Art Diamonds workshop programme to celebrate their creative voices and reflect on what creative ageing means to them.
Workshops were held at Blaydon Library and Birtley Villas, creating welcoming spaces where participants could share stories, dream big, and explore new forms of expression. From creative writing and poetry to pottery and manifesto-making, each session sparked conversation, connection and imagination.
Art Diamonds was a celebration of lifelong creativity - a reminder that it’s never too late to try something new, express yourself, and be part of a creative community.
A celebratory publication will be produced as part of the project’s legacy.
